The whole ‘layering’ of make-up is a capitalist trick. She hit the nail on the head when she said beauty was a coping mechanism because it feels like society doesn’t value you if you don’t play by the rules. Exactly. That’s exactly what the ad men want you to think. You must have make up to be beautiful. And then once we are using it every day, they invent ‘extras’ like primer, and setting spray and oils and potions and a different moisturiser for every conceivable area of skin. It’s the same with layered necklaces, curated piercings, stacking rings – it’s all just a big ole con to get you to buy more than you really need.
It’s very simple to stop and ask, “why.” Keep asking yourself why until you get to the root of your motivations.
For those of you who feel your “creative expression” to conform to “standards” is being “attacked,” I’m sure there’s a documentary about toxic chemicals in beauty products somewhere.
The day I stopped wearing makeup everyday was liberating. I’d highly recommend it to all women!! I spent so much time and money on makeup I can’t think about it
WORD! The more I focused my time, energy and money on being healthy, including having healthy skin – the better I looked and the less 'beauty' products I needed or wanted. Wish I'd figured that out sooner, would have saved $$

The beauty mask picture maybe wasn't the best self-care thing to pick in this context, though…
The way most people treat you is based on how you look
